Escrow Ledger & Financial Settlements

How double-entry accounting ensures ledger consistency and reliable settlements.

Tumr records every wallet movement in an append-only ledger, so escrow holds and settlements can always be reconciled.

The Escrow Lifecycle

  1. Reservation Phase: When an order is dispatched, the fare is held against the funding wallet:
  2. ```
  3. Wallet Available Balance -= Order Fare (e.g. ₦2,500.00)
  4. Wallet Escrow Balance += Order Fare (e.g. ₦2,500.00)
  5. ```
  6. Settlement Phase (Delivery Verification): Once delivery is confirmed, the escrow is released and the platform commission captured on the rate card at quote time is deducted:
  7. ```
  8. Wallet Escrow Balance -= ₦2,500.00
  9. Rider/Carrier Wallet += Net Fare (fare minus platform commission)
  10. Platform Wallet += Platform Commission
  11. ```
  12. The commission percentage is the one snapshotted on the rate card when the fare was quoted — check your market's rate card for the current figure.
  13. Return / Failure Phase: If the delivery cannot be completed, the shipment moves through the exception → return-to-sender flow. On return confirmation the courier receives a partial payout and the remainder of the hold is refunded to the funding wallet's available balance:
  14. ```
  15. Wallet Escrow Balance -= ₦2,500.00
  16. Courier Wallet += Partial RTS payout
  17. Funding Wallet Available += Remainder (merchant refund)
  18. ```
